Located in the southernmost part of Higashihiroshima City, Akitsu Cho is the only seaside town in Higashihiroshima City. Akitsu Cho lies along the Seto Inland Sea.
Akasaki District in the south is known for its delicious potatoes. Oysters are raised in the sea. Oranges and loquats are also grown in the warm climate.
JR Kure Line runs through the south of the town. There is also a ferry port, where you can take a ferry to Osakikamijima Island. Oshiba Island, the biggest island in the city, is connected to the mainland by Oshibaohashi Bridge.
