Higashihiroshima City Fire Brigade has a Homentai (army corps) in each town (2 Homentai in Saijo Cho), made up of 1,637 members in total (as of April 1, 2015). Members of the Fire Brigade take part in activities to protect the safety of the community while working in other fields at ordinary times.
Their role is to work with firefighters to protect people from disasters (fires, typhoons, floods, earthquakes, etc.).
They also search for missing people, prevent fires, and participate in local events. They play an important role in the community.

| We have other jobs at ordinary times and work as members of the Fire Brigade when we receive orders. We also train ourselves to be able to work as a team, especially in case of danger. In case of fire, we fight fire with the firefighters and remain on site until we are sure the fire has been put out. We also search for missing people and protect people in case of disasters such as heavy rain. We want to do something that is useful to local people. |
