The Shinobihiden is a ninja manuscript on ninjutsu concerning the historical origin of the Iga and Koka clans. Clear explanations of ninja tools, with easy-to-understand illustrations, and ninja’s necessary know-how for for infiltration, etc. are also outlined. It is regarded as one of the three major ninjutsu documents, along with the Bansenshukai and the Shoninki. According to this same postscript, Shinobihiden is said to have been passed down from Hattori Hanzo Yasunaga to his son, Hanzo Masanari. It is well known that Hattori Hanzo, whose family originated from Iga, had honorably served under that Tokugawa Shogunate. However, it is now thought that later generations had only borrowed the name Hanzo, as he was renowned for his ninjutsu skill at the time.
