“1st Japan Football Tournament (Toyonaka)”
The Japan Football Tournament, which served as the predecessor of the present National High School Rugby Tournament, was held at the Toyonaka Athletic Field in Osaka on 12 and 13 January 1918 under the auspices of Osaka Mainichi Shimbun. This tournament had two categories, the Association Football (soccer) and Rugby Football. Since the Keio rugby team withdrew, three teams from Daisan, Doshisha, and Kyoto Daiichi Commercial took part in the tournament. Doshisha claimed the title by defeating Daisan 19-0 and Kyoto Daiichi Commercial 31-0.
