[JRFU] On 4 January 1953, Prince Chichibu who served as the president of the JRFU passed away. The JRFU had Princess Chichibu preside as the president on January 31. The first chairperson, Yoshihiro Takagi, passed away on January 22. Kumazo Tanabe assumed the post as the new chairperson.
In preparation for the Oxford's visit to Japan, the center spectator stand with a capacity for 2000 people and the club house were completed at the Tokyo rugby stadium in September.
[Rules] A new revision was added which defines a tackle to a player immediately before the player catch the ball at a kickoff or a lineout as a dangerous play.

[International] Oxford University came to Japan for the first time, bringing a lot of excitement to Japanese rugby. At the second match, Waseda was about to settle for a draw, but was narrowly defeated by Oxford 11-8 when Oxford's FB, Marchal, made a successful drop goal. All of the following university teams were defeated by Oxford: Keio (28-6), Meiji (20-3), Kansai students (42-8), and All-Kyushu team (43-0). With the straight defeats suffered by the Japan national team, the Japanese teams lost seven matches.
