The Japan national team consisting of 23 team members under the direction of the tour director, Shigeru Konno, the head coach, Tetsunosuke Onishi, and the captain, Masayoshi Ozaki, went on an international tour in May and June. The Japan national team went on their first historical tour to New Zealand and Australia experiencing five wins and six losses. The major accomplishment during this tour was the victory over the Junior All Blacks 23-19 on June 3.

[International] All-Yamaguchi rugby team toured Taiwan in April with one win and two losses. In May, the All-JR rugby team toured Taiwan with one win and two losses. In August, Keio toured Thailand and Hong Kong with four wins and one loss. In August, TOYOTA toured South Korea with four wins and one loss. In November, Tokyo Sanyo toured South Korea with two wins and one loss.
