* The JRFU chairperson, Ban Kyama who had taken the lead in Japanese rugby, passed away. Unfortunately, his successor, Masao Yukawa, also passed away after five months serving as the chairperson. On November 23, Michio Yokoyama assumed the post as the chairperson.
* The JRFU implemented the 1st Rugby School Coaching Training Course in Sugadaira in August as a leadership development project.

* The NZ university selection team and the Canada BC state team came to Japan. The Japan national team lost all nine games against the NZ university selection team, while winning three games and losing two games against the Canada BC state team.
[Japan Rugby Championship] Up-and-coming Nippon Sports Science University led by Eiju Watai as the head coach defeated Fuji Iron & Steel Kamaishi 29-13, wearing the championship crown for the first time.
[University] Nippon Sports Science University leaping forward defeated Waseda 11-9 at the 6th All-Japan University Rugby Championship, claiming their first long-cherished championship title. As for the 3rd Kanto University League Games, Hosei swept all their eight games and claimed their second league title for the first time in two years, which was the sixth title since their beginning. Doshisha won their 12th consecutive Kansai championship, while Fukuoka Institute of Technology won their 5th consecutive Kyushu championship.

[International] The NZU selection team won three test matches against the Japan national team, and sweeping all their games against other Japanese teams as follows: NZU 36-3 Waseda, NZU 29-14 Hosei, NZU 46-12 Doshisha, NZU 79-8 TOYOTA, and NZU 35-11 All-Kyushu. The NZU selection team defeated the Canada BC state team 41-6 at a three-nation tournament, ending their tour with nine wins.

In September, the Duke of Wellington Regiment team came to Japan losing all three games, and ELLIS CLUB toured South Korea in the same month with two wins and one loss. In February, Osaka Club toured Taiwan with two losses.
