[JRFU] Michio Yokoyama Passes Away and Tokishiro Shiina Assumes the Chairperson's Post: Chairperson Michio Yokoyama passed away. On July 8, Tokishiro Shiina assumed the post as the seventh chairperson of the JRFU. The Prince Chichibu Memorial Rugby Stadium was refurbished. Because of this refurbishment to expand the stand for spectators, this stadium was unavailable for use. This caused official rugby matches to be held at various locations across Japan during this season. The Kyushu Rugby Football Union marked the 25th anniversary of its foundation, and held the 25th anniversary ceremony at the Heiwadai stadium on September 2.
[Japan] Japan's First Tour to England and France: The Japan national team toured England and France for the first time. They fought well but ended their tour with two wins and nine losses.
[Japan Rugby Championship] Ricoh defeated Waseda 25-3 at the 11th Japan Rugby Championship, claiming their second consecutive championship title.
[University] Waseda defeated Meiji 29-6 at the 10th All-Japan University Rugby Championship, claiming their sixth championship title for the first time in two years. Waseda claimed their 18th tournament title for four consecutive years by winning all their games of the 44th Kanto Inter-University Rugby Tournament. Senshu claimed their second league title for the first time in five years with the result of five wins and one loss at the 7th Kanto University League Games. At the 45th Kansai University League Games, Tenri won all their six games and claimed their second league title for the first time in three years. In Kyushu, Fukuoka defeated Kagoshima 40-4 claiming their fourth tournament title for the first time in two years.
[Company Rugby] Ricoh won by a hair over Kintetsu 4-3 claiming their third championship title for two consecutive years.
[International] The University of Bluenos Aires selection team came to Japan for the first time as an Argentinian team, with the result of one win and one loss (Kanto Students 26-20 UBA, and UBA 34-6 Tenri). Ricoh toured South Korea in May with one win and one loss, and Daito University toured New Zealand in July with four wins and two losses.
