In the 65th Kanto Inter-University Rugby Tournament, Meiji won all their nine matches claiming their 23rd tournament title for five years in a row. In the 28th Kanto University Rugby League, Daito Bunka achieved six wins and one loss claiming their sixth league title and for the first time in three years. In the 66th Kansai University Rugby League, Kyoto Sangyo University tied Doshisha with six wins and one loss, then won the match between them and claimed their second title and for the first time in five years. In the 2nd Kyushu University Rugby League, Seinan Gakuin won all their seven matches getting back to the top in Kyushu for the first time in 34 years.

They lost to the United States 121-0, resulting in one win and one loss in the qualifying stage. Their results were unfortunately 99-0 against France in the first match of the cup, 57-0 against Canada in the shield semi-final, and 11-3 against Ireland in the shield third place playoff.
