During this visit, the all-Australian student team lost to Keio University and Meiji University, and beat the All-Kansai region, Waseda University and Doshisha University in the first test match. Japan's national squad had to win this final game to save its honour.
The game as it happened: The first half, 5 min: Westfield of Australia successfully scored a drop-goal (worth four points at the time). 23 min: from scrum near Australia's 25-yard line, Japan's Nogami passed the ball to the left. Toba jumped to it and scored a try. Just before the break: Japan made a counterattack by intercepting the opponent's dribbling. The forwards passed the ball to Tamba who then managed to try right under the posts. Japan also scored a goal. The second half, 12 min: Duvall of Australia went over the top from the line-out in front of the goal, scored a come-from-behind try and a goal. 20 min: From a ruck in front of Australia's goal-line, Japan connected the ball to the right from Tamba to Tachibana, then to Naito to score a try. The rain got heavier at about this point. Japan, playing with the wind behind them, utilised their advantage in kicking, and rushed into the opponent's territory. 35 min: Japan was awarded a penalty in front of the goal. Kasahara successfully scored, and Japan won a tight game.
