In spite of some drizzle before the game, the stadium was jam-packed with spectators eager to see the long-awaited international match. 29 infringements across both teams indicates how strict the referee Kawata was. Thus the game was stopped repeatedly, and that made it less interesting, to everyone's disappointment. The game was ended with no tries scored. Japan's backs poorly attacked on that day; it was the worst of the three matches so far for the Japanese national team.
In the first half, Australia scored the first points by a penalty in the 11th minute, a try and a goal in the 24th minute, which was immediately followed by another try and goal in the 25th minute, a penalty in the 30th minute, 0-16. Although Japan got as close as 6-16, Australia added another try. The final score was 6-19.
