At last, the national rugby union team of England, where rugby football originated, visited Japan. The first test match against England, much awaited by ruggermen all over Japan, attracted 12,000 spectators to Hanazono Stadium.
I was very impressed with the players for keeping an even score of 19-19 until the last five minutes of the match. In the first half, 11 min: Japan opened the scoring with Yamaguchi's penalty. 16 min: England scored a try. 19 min and 22 min: Yamaguchi scored a penalty. England scored a penalty and a try to make it 9-10 at the break. The second half, 4 min: Japan's Mizutani scored a try. 18 min: England scored a try from the pass from the forwards. 22 min: England kicked a penalty, 15-19. 23 min: Japan made a quick attack from a penalty kick, Murata managed to try to the left corner, 19-19. 37 min and 38 min: England scored a try. Tour director Weighill joked about the heat with temperatures over 30 degrees Celsius and said “there would be fatalities if we were in England”.
