It was the 10th test match NZU played with a Japanese team since their visit to Japan in 1936, and was the first time they lost. As this was also the final match in the tour, the much-awaited news of this first giant-killing game made us go wild with joy in Japan. Japan got off to a promising start. 4 min: Aruga scored a try. 16 min: Mori scored a try and Ueyama added a conversion, 10-0. Although they conceded one penalty and one try to NZU, Aruga darted to score a try in the 38th minute and Ueyama successfully added conversion, 16-7. Japan conceded a try early in the second half. Also, Ueyama had to be replaced due to injury. These put Japan to a tight corner, but in the 29th minute, Aruga score a try from Yoshida's punt to get Japan back in front. Later, Japan conceded a try and gave NZU a 20-21 lead in the 35th minute, but in the 37th minute, Fujiwara scored a game-winning try and distinguished himself. Japan won 24-21. Thanks to this long-awaited victory, Japan's final result of the tour became even: five wins, five losses, and a draw.
