The Welsh club combined team was a strong team with players selected from Welsh clubs in their prime. Japan allowed them to score three tries but was playing well until the 15th minute of the second with a score of 9-19: Players such as Mori and Fujiwara got close to the goal, and Tanaka scored three penalties. However, the situation took a turn for the worse from then onwards. Wales dominated ball possession. They keep the ball alive even after being tackled. Japan allowed Wales to run around as they liked, conceded nine tries (total of 12 tries), and suffered a disastrous loss.
Scrum-half Ryozo Imazato, who was in this game as a player as well as a coach recalled this tour, which Japan ended with three wins and seven losses, as follows: “I think that the reason we could not end the tour with five wins and five losses was the basic play. The basic play I mean here is, in other words, a ‘strong desire for the ball'.”
