Although it was a slim victory, Oxford was so pleased to achieve their goal of defeating Japan, that the team ushered captain Brian to the dressing room on a teammate's shoulder. Oxford scored a try in the 32nd minute to narrow the margin to two points, and scored another try and a goal in the 36th minute to turn the game around, 16-20.
