The all-Australian student team has won four games straight so far against Meiji, Hosei and Doshisha universities, and the Kyushu representative team. As three of the four games were close, Japan's national squad surely had to win soon.
The ground condition was bad due to rain: it was not a good thing for Japan, who are best at open play. The first half, 7 min: Australia opened the scoring with a penalty. 12 min: Centre Minamikawa caught the ball from a long lineout throw, made a dash to near the goal, passed the ball to Ishizuka, Minamikawa, Matsuo, then to Toshima to score a try (and a conversion). 30 min: the wing of Australian Student picked up the high punt he kicked while Japan was making a handling mistake, and scored a try to the centre (and a conversion) to turn the game around, 6-9.
In the 3rd minute of the second half, fullback Tanaka joined the line in brilliant speed, and dived in between right and centre to turn the game around once again. Japan did not go defensive after this, and kept attacking in the rain. They did not concede a point to the Australian Students for the remaining 37 minutes, and wrested the victory with a score of 10-9.
