The ball was slippery due to the rain. Kicking and running and stand-off of the opponent gave Japan a hard time. Japan committed infringements twice as much as the Oxford and Cambridge combined team did, and conceded three penalties. This made the difference in points. However, the number of tries was 2-1. “We lost the game but we are hopeful,” said coach Hibino. The rain got really hard in the end of the first half and killed the delicate techniques of Japan. Whenever Japan made an attack, the British referee stopped it with a faint whistle which was hard for the spectators to hear. Japan, trailing the opponent by five points, launched a counterattack after the 20th minute of the second half. They repeatedly attempted an attack in front of the goal. In the string of the attack, stand-off Matsuo moved from right to left, but unfortunately dropped the ball at the moment when he went unmarked.
