Ireland, which won the Triple Crown in the Five Nations Championship, came into this game with its best members. They ran around and scored eight tries. Asahi Shimbun reported the game with the headline ‘we are far behind in skills and in running'.
In the 6th minute of the first half, Ireland scored a try from Japan's lineout. In the 25th minute, fullback Mukai made a dash with some nice steps. But when he moved in for a line attack, Ireland tackled him and launched a counterattack. They took advantage of the disordered defence and scored a try to the right corner. Ireland did not loosen up on their attack and scored eight tries in total. Japan made a desperate stand with two tries by Ishiyama and Konishi, but Onuki's dash to the goal was stopped just short. Ireland closed the game 13-48 to show their superiority. Unfortunately, there was a big difference in power, skill, and speed just as the headline of Asahi Shimbun said.
