The final match of the North America tour, Japan defeated Canada to stop their losing streak in test matches, and ended this tour with four wins, three losses and one draw. Japan's aggressive defence led to this victory. In the 22nd minute of the first half, Japan pressured the scrum awarded to Canada. Konishi picked up the loose ball and scored a try. As in this case, all five tries including the one after the brave side attack from the scrum (by Konishi, in the 5th minute of the second half), were fruit of aggressive, forging-ahead play. In the second half, when fatigue was setting in, Japan conceded a try from the scrum in the 18th minute, but held on to win a bitter victory. “The biggest benefit was that we had the stamina to strive through the final 20 minutes of the second half. In this final match, we were trailed by five points and were under fierce attack by Canada for the final 10 minutes, but we were able to focus on defending and got through the game. As proof of this, eight of our 24 tries in this tour were scored in the last 20 minutes,” said coach Miyaji.
