Japan wanted to run around without losing steam, and make Canada exhausted like they did in the unforgettable match against Scotland. In the 10th minute of the first half, Japan passed the ball to the right from a lineout and formed a ruck when Masuho got caught. They passed the ball to the left from there, and Yoshida scored the first try on the scoreboard. However, Canada, with their flanker playing as the lock in order to make the forwards mobile, was quick to launch a counterattack; they scored three tries and three goals to turn the game around to 6-18. Japan's Yoshida scored the second try in the 32nd minute of the first half, but Canada scored two tries and two goals to seal the win. Japan made an attack without fear of failure in the second half. They got as close as 26-36 at one stage, but the gap was widened again by the time the whistle went for no side. Japan conceded eight tries, the highest count under coach Shukuzawa. Their final result for this tour was two wins and three losses.
