Japan conceded a try and a penalty while scoring just one penalty to make it 3-8 at the break, but they turned the game around in the second half. Nagatomo kicked a penalty, 6-8. Motoki touched down the ball Yoshida kicked to the in-goal area in the 14th minute. Nagatomo scored a goal to outshoot Canada by 12-8. While they stopped Fiji's fierce attack with hard tackles, Masuo scored a try in the 34th minute to seal the win. It was one of the best games Japan has played. Among the various reasons for this victory, I would like to place a particular emphasis on the unflagging fighting spirit of the XV who kept attacking actively until the end. The come-from-behind by Motoki in the 14th minute, as well as the game-deciding try by Masuo in the 34th minute of the second half, was based on this. This is victory of “offence-oriented rugby”. The strategy prepared for the World Cup is to break up the opponent vertically by the forwards and the backs before launching an open attack. We should polish this for the Asia qualifier.
