Canada won the Championship before the final game. Japan tried to make gestures against them but lost 30-51. Japan finished even on wins with Hong Kong by two wins and four losses, but was placed in the bottom because they were behind on points. The first Pacific Rim Championship told us that this tournament would be very important for Japan, and would serve as a barometer for outcomes of the reinforcement.
In the match against the U.S. on 6 July, Hirose had to be replaced due to injury in the 21st minute of the first half. In that crisis, scrum-half Nagatomo had to act as stand-off. For today's game, coach Yamamoto picked captain Motoki as the stand-off, the game maker to save Japan. He was picked with the intention that his good judgment and mental strength would be a good influence on the team. We saw the result in offence; Japan scored four tries from Canada. However, we could not improve defence; Japan conceded six tries.
