Following the victory over Canada, Japan beat Tonga. The Golden Boot winner Hirose set a new world record and scored nine penalties (27 points). He also scored one try and one goal. As the number of tries for the match was three for each country, these 34 points were a huge contributor to this win. Although I feel uncomfortable with the headlines of sports papers calling it “Hirose scored 34 points by himself”, because rugby is a team sport, I must say Japan owes a lot to Hirose.
