Japan's tour of France and Ireland ended as a dismal failure. Although Japan played an acceptable 23-40 match with France A, they drew derision from Ireland Rugby Union and the fans. They lost to U25 by 13-83, and by 9-78 in the test match in which Japan scored no try. Japan's points came from three penalties by Hirose, whereas they conceded 11 tries to the opponent. The game doesn't even deserve a comment. Local press threw harsh criticism on Japan, too: “What is the point of a ‘100-point game' test match?” “The reputation Japanese rugby has fostered over the years is gone. It is not easy to build back trust.”
