Japan took control of the game when number 8 Saito got out to the centre from a lineout on the right to score a try in the 3rd minute of the first half. Japan conceded one try to Canada in the first half and none in the second, while they scored five tries, and won 39-7. Japan took third place in the Pacific Rim Championship. Japan's offensive strength is the reason for this win. Longer ball possession means longer time in offence, and thus a relatively short time in defence. This helped the team keep their concentration and resulted in better defence.
