Japan wanted to make up for the disgrace of an ugly loss in Scotland, but could not beat Romania. When on a tour, good results can lift the team's spirits, while a losing streak depresses them and this can become a vicious circle. This is one of the difficult things about playing away. After the first half, the score differential was 14. Japan switched to a close-quarters battle using the forwards in the second half. In the 12th minute, number 8 Miuchi scored a try from the scrum in front of the opponent's goal, and narrowed the margin to 7 points. However, Japan did not have enough strength left to cover the backs' lost attacking force, and conceded another try just before the end of the game. Defence has improved since the match against Scotland, but was not good enough to shut out the attack
