The Elissalde regime was seemingly looking promising for the World Cup, but it now looks shaky after the major defeat against Tonga last week. In this game, Japan could not score a try as while Italy achieved seven tries. We cannot argue with the criticism of the newspapers who said “they hit too softly, and their tactics were not thorough”. In the 7th minute of the first half, Italy overwhelmed Japan in the scrum and scored a try. Costly mistakes like this dragged Japan into a losing battle. Japanese rugby will become rugby that works only in Asia unless they reorganise themselves as a team.
