The score for the first half was 3-10. The way Japan conceded only one try to NZ Junior gave us some hope for the future. Obviously we were not satisfied with the game, but I saw potential in their defence, in the way they tackled again and again until they were finally pushed into the goal line, that they were just one step away from actually stopping the opponent. We cannot do much about our ability, but we can still make people say “Japan is a great team” by playing a good game. There were opportunities for scoring a try in this game including when centre Imamura made a dash, and when the forwards rushed in front of the goal. If we play more accurately and keep possession of the ball longer, it will in turn decrease the time available for the opponent to attack. I expect Japan to use more refined offending skills consistently in order to play a closer match in future.
