The purpose of this tour was to hold a training camp in Italy to tune up the team's condition for the test match. For the World Cup, head coach Kirwan took a bold measure in forming two teams. This was because they would have to play in a very hard schedule. They have only three days' rest between the first match against Australia and the second match against Fiji. It is too harsh a prospect for Japan to play under NOT equal conditions against an opponent on a higher level in a World Cup that only comes once every four years.
Japan scored two tries from a maul and from an interception, but lost 12-36. The number of tries was 2-5. Japan's defence is getting better for sure. However, in the World Cup, they will not be able to play unless they play their best.
