We are getting real defending skills to fight against this level of team. Japan gave the opponent the upper hand in scrums and lineouts, fell behind little by little in contacts, and conceded four tries in the first half, while scoring only one drop goal, 3-28. The old Japan and its system would fall apart in the second half and concede many more tries. Today, however, they corrected their set play in the second half. Lock Tomoaki Taniguchi, who came in as the substitute in the second half, ran well and scored tries in the 21st and 24th minute. Japan conceded only two tries to Australia A, and finished the second half in a 18-14 lead. Japan lost to the Australia National Rugby Union Team A, the toughest opponent in this cup, with a happy loss, though they conceded twice the points they scored.
