In the match against Fiji, which was the last match in the cup, Japan's starting lineup included players who had not had opportunities to play in official matches. This match was also for the final selection for the World Cup.
Although Japan received Fiji's powerful attack just after the kick-off, Fiji players repeated dangerous tackles on Japan's quick attacks to be sent to the sin-bin one after another, which increased opportunities for Japan to hold the ball. In the second half, full-back Go Aruga and hooker Shota Horie jumped into the in-goal from a high-tempo attack to come from behind. At the end, Yuta Imamura scored the fourth try to share the points with Tonga and won against Fiji to claim the title, the best ending for Japan. This was the first title for Japan since the PNC started. Japan won against Fiji for the first time in as many as 17 years.
