Chichibunomiya Rugby Stadium was filled with an audience of 18,235 people. In the beginning, Japan fought against Argentina who had confidence in scrums, and stand-off Yu Tamura scored the opening penalty goal. Until around the 30th minute of the first half, it was a close battle. In the 35th minute of the first half, Argentina attacked Japan's disturbed defense from a lineout, their scrum-half Martin Landajo got out, and stand-off Nicolas Sanchez scored a try. Also in the second half, Argentina players' speedy running frustrated Japan and widened the score gap, however wing Lemeki Lomano Lava, who debuted as a Japan national team member of the Fifteens, scored a try to please the audience. The match ended with Tamura's goal 20-54. Japan lost completely in the number of tries 2-7. However, even while it was just “comfort” usually, but it could be replaced with “hope” this time. It was a departure of Japan under head coach Jamie Joseph, or still during the “honeymoon” period with just nine days of practice. Head coach Joseph said in an interview after the match: “I'm proud of our players. Their patient attitude was reflected in the last try by Lemeki.”
