In the journal entitled “Hakuro (White Wolf)”, compiled as a memorial for the 90th anniversary of the foundation of the Saikyo High School Rugby Team, the chairman of the Hakuro Club, Toshiro Tanaka, described how the team was formed.
“It was the winter in 1915 when I saw a rugby ball bouncing for the first time on the field of my school. At that time in Japan, Keio University in the east and Doshisha University, Daisan High School, and Kyoto Daiichi Junior High School in the west were only the schools that had rugby teams. According to a great senior rugger, Tamenosuke Ueda, volunteers from my school visited such senior ruggers to ask them for guidance.”
