Beginning of YC&AC Japan Sevens

YC&AC Japan Sevens, a championship that the rugby fans in Kanto are familiar with, began in April 1959. This is a rugby sevens championship, which is the oldest continuously held championships in Japan. YC&AC is a rugby club that played an important role, like a foster parent, by teaching the basics of rugby to Japanese teams including Keio University which was established during the Meiji era. The first YC&AC Japan Sevens was held in April 1959, inviting 16 teams. This championship marked its 50th memorable championship in April 2008. With the king of rugby sevens, Saisale Serevi, invited from Fiji, YC&AC won this 50th championship. YC&AC became the champion in the 52nd championship held in April 2010, claiming the title for three years running.
