JRFU's 35th Memorial Festival

The JRFU celebrated the 35th anniversary of its foundation at Prince Chichibu Memorial Rugby Stadium on 24 September 1963. There was also a memorial service conducted for those forerunners that actively served to disseminate rugby in Japan during the time of its foundation including the honorary president, Prince Chichibu. In this 35th memorial festival, Chairman Ban Kayama expressed gratitude to the late Prince Chichibu through Princess Chichibu. This was followed by another expression of thanks and commendations to five late individuals, Ginnosuke Tanaka, Yoshihiro Takagi, Kumazo Tanabe, Teiichi Sugimoto, and Jusaburo Hashimoto, through their families. Afterward, 12 teams including Keio University with its roots deep in the tradition of rugby along with four other groups received awards.
The teams awarded included Keio University Rugby Football Club, Daisan High School Rugby Football Club, Doshisha University Rugby Football Club, Keio High School Rugby Football Club (present Keio Senior High School Rugby Football Club), Kyoto Daiichi Junior High School Rugby Club (present Rakuhoku High School Rugby Football Club), Kyoto Daiichi Commercial High School Rugby Football Club (present Saikyo High School Rugby Football Club), KR&AC, YC&AC, Waseda University Australia Expedition Team, the 1st All-Japan Canada Expedition Team, and Yahata Steel Works Rugby Club.
