They worked all night and all day today but the work is not done. And we are drifting south west right out of our course with a furious［?］ head wind. But I trust in God and wait. No doubt He will provide some way or other. Captain is very cross［?］ and I do not wonder at it. I go to bed with my cloth on for fear something might happen during the night.
［欄外］さなきだにうきは旅路の常なるを行衛も知らでまよふ船かな
青海原船はいづこにまよふとも天つみ神のみ手ははなれじ
昨晩ずっと、そして本日も一日中作業は続いているが、まだ終わっていない。激しい向かい風によって、航路から外れてどんどん南西に流されている。しかし私は神を信じて待つ。何らかの方法で助けを与えてくださるに違いない。船長は非常にイライラしている。無理もないと思う。夜間に何か起きる恐れがあるので、服を着たまま就寝した。
