A little after one o’clock this morning a part of the engine again broke down. And the ship came to a sudden halt. I was sound sleep and did not know; when she stopped but when I awoke she was not moving. It is wonder-full［sic］ how one gets used to a thing. I said simply “there she is stuck again”. Fortunately the injury was not very serious and after three hours standing still, she started again in her course.
Rainy and chilly day.
午前の1時を少し過ぎた頃、エンジンの一部が再び故障し、船が急停止した。
私はぐっすり寝ていて止まった際には気付かなかったが、起きた時には動いていなかった。「また止まったな」とだけつぶやいた。幸いなことにそこまで重度の故障ではなく、3時間は止まっていたが、その後再び航路を進み始めた。雨が降っていて肌寒い一日だった。
