Came over with Dr. A. to N.Y. and became for the time being a guest of Mr. R. C. Morse, 139 East 18th st. Took the packages from Mr. Swift to 114 Fulton st. Messrs. Newman and Jones. both of whom were not there.
Went over to the Y.M.C.A building and listened for a while to the discussions in the Sicritaris［sic］ Conference on the subject of Bible study. After lunch I went over to the Prsby. Building. Mr. Garret （?） showed me through the building. A very fine building. Had a very pleasant talk with the secritaries［sic］ Gillespee and Brown about the general conditions of things and especially about the Meiji Gakuin.
They seemed to be favorably impressed by the talk. At least they asked me to write an article in the educational work in Japan for the rep. member of the church at home and abroad. In the evening went to the Carnegie Hall to the reception for Dr. Clark of the Ch. End. Society. Extremely interesting meeting.
ドクター・Aとニューヨークに行き、しばらくは東18丁目139番地のミスター・R・C・モースの世話になることになった。ミスター・スウィフトからの小包をフルトン・ストリート114番地のニューマン、ジョーンズ両氏に持っていったが、二人とも不在だった。
YMCAの建物に行き、YMCA主事会議における聖書学についての議論をしばらく聞いた。昼食後は、プレスビテリアン・ビルディングまで行った。
ミスター・ギャレット（？）が中を案内してくれた。非常に立派な建物だった。主事のギレスピーおよびブラウンと様々なことの概況、中でも特に明治学院について歓談した。話の内容に好印象を抱いてくれた様子だった。少なくとも、日本の教育活動についての論説を、国内外の代表委員のために『The Church at Home and Abroad』に執筆してくれと頼まれた。夜には、「Ch. End. Society」のドクター・クラークのレセプションに参加しに、カーネギー・ホールに行った。非常に興味深い集まりだった。
