Went with Mr. Clement to the Baptist Church House and the Thomas Cook’s office near by, to make inquiries about the train to Edinburgh and the steamers to New York.
In the afternoon went to the Westminster Abbey and stayed through the 3 o’clock service. I did not like the service which seemed very formal and perfectional.
They went to the House of the Lords. Lord Rosebery was speaking but is soon adjourned then I went to the House of Commons but only a few members were present and nothing important going on, so I did not stay more than ten minutes or so. It is getting very warm. I have nothing to do here. I wish to go to Edinburgh but being invited by Dr. Simpson to be his guest during the Conference it is rather awkward to go before the time. I am tired of sightseeing. I wish to be doing something.
ミスター・クレメントと共にバプティスト・チャーチ・ハウスに行った。また、エディンバラ行きの列車やニューヨークへの汽船について質問するために、近くにあるトーマス・クックの代理店にも行った。
午後にはウェストミンスター寺院に行き、3時の礼拝の終わりまでそこにいた。礼拝は非常に堅苦しく通り一遍な様子で、好きではなかった。
その後、貴族院に行った。ローズベリー卿が演説していたが、すぐに終わってしまった。次に庶民院に行ったが、数名の議員しか居らず、特に何も起きていなかったので、10分程度しか滞在しなかった。かなり暖かくなってきている。ここでは何もすることがない。エディンバラに行きたいが、ドクター・シンプソンに大会のゲストとして招かれている立場なので、早く現地に行くのも気が引ける。観光にも飽きてしまった。何か有意義なことがしたい。
