July 4th, Monday
In the morning called on Mr. Mizuno and Honda who is staying with him. Mr. & Mrs. Ohori went with me. Mr. M. and his wife received us very cordially. They live on 11th story of a fine apartment house facing the Central Park. The house commands a very fine view ［towards］ the east and northwest. Presented the Ohoris with nori and tea. In the evening Li Enki? and Minemura called and had a pleasant talk with them. Li invited us to a Japanese dinner tomorrow evening. This is my 56th birthday. May I live a better and much useful life in future!
午前中、ミスター・ミズノと、彼の家に滞在しているミスター・ホンダを訪ねる。オオホリ夫妻も同行した。M夫妻は我々をあたたかく迎えてくれた。彼らはセントラルパークに面した高級アパートの11階に住んでいる。東方面、および北西方面の眺めが素晴らしい。オオホリ夫妻らに海苔とお茶を供する。夜、リ・エンキとミネムラが訪ねてきて、楽しく語り合う。リが明日の夜、日本食の夕食に招待してくれた。今日は私の56歳の誕生日。これからもより良い、そして役に立つ人生を送れますように！
