In the morning paper I see that Mayor Gaynor of New York has been shot and seriously wounded by a dismissed employer of the city. Feel a real sympathy for him. Upright men in this “Land of Liberty” is as much in danger as in other countries, if indeed not more so.
In the morning it was quite cool but afternoon quite warm.
ニューヨークのゲイナー市長が解雇された市の元職員に撃たれ、重傷を負ったことを朝刊で知った。心から彼に同情を覚える。この「自由の国」において良心的に生きる男たちは、他国と同じくらい、いやそれ以上に危険にさらされている。
