The party left the Training School 8 P.M., then took a large river boat from 42nd St. pier. Reached West Point a little after noon, and saw the pretty parade of the cadet army specially ordered by the President in honor of the Conference. Went
through the buildings. From there took a special train to New Paltz. Then we[got]in carriages to Lake Mohonk Hotel where we were received by Mr. Samuels[?]. The place is a charming spot, the air is just delicious. The Hotel is big and most comfortable.
In the evening the conference began. I was put in the chain and gave the opening address.
