Got up early and in company with Mr. Ohori took an early train from the Pennsylvania Station to Asbury Park where the Synod of the Reformed Churches session.
Saw Dr. Chamberlin the secretary of the Foreign Board.
In the morning I was invited to sit as a correspondent member and to speak but business took a good deal of time and I was introduced only in the afternoon. I spoke for ten or fifteen minutes. I spoke［about］what the Reformed Church did for Japan for the Church of Christ in Japan, for the Meijigakuin and finally for myself. They received my speech well.
Afterwards several men and women spoke to me and cordially thanked me for it.
早起きし、ミスター・オオホリと共にペンシルベニア駅から早い列車でアズベリー・パークに向けて発つ。そこ
で改革派教会の大会が開かれた。
海外宣教委員会の主事であるドクター・チェンバレンに会う。
午前中に特派員として参加しスピーチするよう頼まれたのだが、業務に時間がかかり、紹介されたのは午後になってからであった。1015分のスピーチをした。改革派教会が日本や日本基督教会、また明治学院に、そして私個人に対してしてくれたことについて述べた。スピーチは好意的に受け入れられた。
その後何人かの男女が話しかけてきて、私に丁寧な礼を述べてくれた。
