六月二十日（金）
Spent most of the morning in writing letters and packing. At 1 P.M. I was invited by Mr. & Mrs. Arakawa with Mr. & Mrs. Ohori to a Japanese Restaurant “Wakamatsu" and enjoyed a really fine Japanese dinner. I was astonished to see how complete a Japanese dinner it was. In the afternoon went
to Macy's to buy a things［sic］to take home with me.
At the supper I treated the inmates of the house with ice cream and strawberries and gave them short talk. Mr. & Mrs. Ohori came to my room and had a long talk. They complained of each other and I gave them “a lecture".
手紙を書くことと荷造りに午前中のほとんどを費やす。午後1時にアラカワ夫妻から、オオホリ夫妻とともに日本食のレストラン「ワカマツ」に招待され、美味しい和食を楽しんだ。和食として何からなにまで整っているのに大変驚いた。午後にはメイシーズに出かけて日本にもって帰るものを買う。
夕食時、同宿の人たちにアイスクリームとイチゴをふるまい、簡単な挨拶もした。オオホリ夫妻が私の部屋まで来てくれ、長く話し込んだ。2人がお互いに愚痴を言うので、私は軽い「訓戒」を垂れておいた。
