七月一日（火）
I took 9.45 train to Rheinphelden［sic］and got there 11.30 and walked down to the Hotel de Salines. I found Mr. Heinz as cordial as ever. He at once invited me to dine with him and his sec. He talked over different matters and took walk with me and took supper with me in time for me to take 7. P.M. train. He also invited me to stay with him at the hotel until the convention. I told him that I did not need more money for my travelling expenses. He said he appreciated it very much because he had spent a good deal of money already.
9時45分にラインフェルデン行き列車に乗り、11時30分に着いて、サリーヌホテルへ向かう。ミスター・ハインツはいつものように暖かく迎えてくれる。すぐに彼とその秘書と共に午餐しようと誘われる。彼と様々な話をし、共に散歩をし、夜7時の列車に間に合うよう夕食を共にした。また、会議までこのホテルに泊まればどうか
と誘ってくれた。私はこれ以上旅費をかけられないと話した。彼はもうすでにかなりの出費をしていたため納得し、感謝もしてくれた。
