In the morning went to the duomo or the cathedral. There were some sixty people inside and a priest was preaching. The inside is quite plain. From there we went to Galleria Uffizi and Pitti Palace.
The latter contains a greater number of masterpieces than the former. The works of Raphael and Titian are wonderful. Murillo's Madonna is very fine too. These pictures are too wonderful to be described.
In the afternoon took a tram ride round the city.
午前中にドゥオーモに行く。60人ほどが集まり、神父が説教していた。内部はかなり地味である。そこからウフィツィ美術館とピッティ宮殿に足を延ばす。
後者のほうが傑作の数が多い。ラファエルやティツィアーノの作品がすばらしかった。ムリーリョの聖母子も珠玉である。こうした絵画の崇高さはとうてい言葉で表わすことができない。
午後には路面電車で市内を回った。
