Bought a small gold watch for mother. Thought she would be pleased to get it. Mr. Ishiwara called in the afternoon and we took a walk to the Western end of the lake where there is a small park. Dr. Good invited me to go out with him on the lake to see the fireworks. Because this is the Swiss Independence Day. We went in the steamer about 7 P.M. which made a circuit in the lake and came back just in time for the fireworks. There were bon fires on the hills and illumination[at]different villages as well as the city of Zurich. It is a very pretty show. The people were very quiet.
