At last bade good bye to Zurich where I had certainly spent a month. Took 7.16 train, had intended to take all my things into the car but the porter insisted that one of them was too large. So I had to check it to Berlin. When I came to Basle［sic］and the German Customs House I found that my valise was not there. They sent it via Strasburg. This is what I was just afraid of［sic］. Paid for a telegram to have it send directly to Berlin. The train lost time and I could not change car［s］at Manheim but succeeded in making connection at Kreiensen. And got in Berlin a little before 1 A.M. Took a taxi and came to the Hospis am Bahnhof Friedrich Str.
1カ月も過ごしたチューリッヒに、やっとお別れである。
7時16分の列車に乗る。荷物はすべて車室に入れるつもりであったが、ポーターが荷物の1つが大きすぎると主張する。仕方がないのでベルリンまで別に預けることになった。バーゼルに着いてドイツの税関で確認すると、私のカバンは来ていない。ストラスブール経由で送られたようだ。心配した通りになってしまい、自費で電報を打って直接ベルリンに送ってもらう。列車が遅れ、マンハイムで乗り換えができなかったが、クライエンゼンで追いついた。ベルリンに着いたのは夜中の1時近かった。タクシーでフリードリヒ通りのホスピス・アム・バンホーフへ行く。
