At Kalish the boundary between Germany and Russia I had to change cars, and had quite a time. That is I had to have my passport examined, buy a ticket for Platzkart and go through the Custom House with my baggage and hadbags[sic], and all that by myself[with]nobody to help me. They did not understand English either.

When I got into the new Russian car I found myself with Russians in the same compartment. They spoke a few English words, but I found out that one of them was going to the same station that I was going after arriving at the Brest station. We became friends and we went in one carriage and he took me to see the Kremlin too, and helped me very much. I waited

for the International Express where I met several Japanese who were going by the same train. Among others Prof. Kano, and Mr. Taki. I was glad to have with me some other Japanese passengers.
