Wrote my little speech for the Pan Pacific dinner or Luncheon today and had it type written.
Went to the Alexander Young hotel and sat on the right of
the Governor Farrington and made my speech. After lunch was over several people came to me and thanked me for it.
Prof. Anezaki arrived at in the afternoon gave a talk on the contrast between West and East［,］criticizing the restlessness of the former and pleading for the［sic］more quiet and restful outlook of life. Interesting but not conclusive. He confessed that he had no solution on［sic］this problem.
太平洋会議の午餐あるいは昼食会での短いスピーチを書き、タイプライターで清書してもらう。
アレクサンダー・ヤング・ホテルに行き、ファリントン準州知事のすぐ向かいに座って私がスピーチをした。昼食後に数人がやってきてわざわざ礼を言ってくれた。
プロフェッサー・姉崎が到着、午後に西洋と東洋の違いについて語り、前者の行動にとかく落ち着きがないことを批判、ものごとに対しもっと静かな平穏な見方ができないものかと訴えた。興味深いが、決定的ではない。彼はこの問題に解決策を持たないことを認めた。
